TRANSIT PROJECTES is dedicated to the conceptualisation, planning, evaluation and design of projects that aim to facilitate access to the cultural capital of citizens, based on the logic of collaboration between companies and institutions and a multidisciplinary team that is organised throughout different departments in the aim of providing a specialised response to different demands.
The research is framed within the project of the group of architects a77 (Buenos Aires, Argentina) to design and produce a hybrid architecture in the interior courtyard of Can Xalant as an extension of the activities and contents produced at the centre. At the same time, a nomadic unit will be designed and produced to extend these activities to other spaces in the city of Mataró and other cities in the area. In both cases, a77 will work with material that has been rejected from various industrial processes.
What is requested within the framework of DISONANCIAS is the research, analysis and identification of emerging situations in the sociocultural context of Mataró (approx. 120,000 inhabitants) in order to provide opportune interventions in its public spaces with this ephemeral architecture. The concept of public space that is being highlighted includes the Can Xalant courtyard and installation that was recently burnt down.
The incorporation of the artist to the process will be immediately after the selection process, in December of 2008, using the first stay of a77 in Can Xalant.
TRANSIT R&D&I department promotes innovative projects, processes and concepts that help to transfer knowledge between the areas of cultural development, social inclusion and territorial action. It is a laboratory for the combination of knowledge and experience to provide an area for new solutions to cultural management. The team that will collaborate with the artists within the framework of this project comprises:
- a77 (Buenos Aires, Argentina)
- Cristina Riera: Head of the R&D&I department
- Pep Dardanyà: Director of the Can Xalant Contemporary Thought and Creation Centre in Mataró
- Susana Gómez: Head of communication in the Can Xalant Centre
- Delicia Burset: Head of activities in Can Xalant Centre
- Rafel Ruiz: Head of infrastructure
Option A: It is understood that neither the artist nor the participating company aims to obtain economic profit by exploiting the result, which will be publicly communicated by using Copyleft and Creative Commons mechanisms, excluding the possibility of any other person, natural or legal, being able to exploit these results for commercial interests.
